Over the past few years Laguardia has become one of the trendiest tourist destinations in the Basque Country. Aside from its privileged architecture, history and surroundings, this town also provides a wide range of leisure options.
Between 23 and 29 June, the town celebrates its San Juan and San Pedro patron saint festivities, with music, performances and the ‘peñas’ adding atmosphere to the evenings. Many of the wineries in the town, both those underground and in the surrounding areas, provide guided tours. The Paseo del Collado is an ideal place for relaxing, viewing the flats from the privileged viewpoint of Laguardia and visiting the tribute monument to Félix María de Samaniego, the famous fabulist born in the town in 1745. Just a short distance from here one can visit the lagoons of Laguardia and its Paseo del Prao, which are both protected biotopes, as well as an ornithological park and the neolithic Poblado de la Hoya and its museum.
